About Your Career

How did you get to LauraMac?

I was working for a technology company while going to school when an opportunity to join a new company in the mortgage industry arose. I took the leap, and what started as a new opportunity turned into a career that has now spanned more than two decades.

I started my career in loan originations in 2002, and over the years I've had the opportunity to grow through several different areas of the mortgage business. I worked in origination, moved into processing and management, and eventually had a manager who saw that I was interested in the technical side and gave me a chance to move into business analysis. That opened the door to working more closely with mortgage systems, requirements, and process improvements, which really became the path I stayed on. When the opportunity came up to join LauraMac in February of last year, it felt like the right next step, especially because I already knew and trusted some of the people here.

What are skills that are important for someone in your role to have?

I think the most important skills are curiosity, communication, collaboration, and critical thinking. A big part of the role is asking the right questions, understanding different perspectives, and turning complex challenges into practical solutions. Strong relationships are also key because success comes from working together, building trust, and keeping everyone aligned. Most importantly, you have to be willing to keep learning, adapt to change, and never stop looking for better ways to solve problems.

General Life

Where did you grow up?

I was born in San Diego, but I spent much of my childhood overseas. When I was eight, my family moved to Ireland, where we lived for several years before moving to London. I stayed there through my school years, and after graduation I decided to move back to the United States with my family. I settled in Colorado in 1996 and have been here ever since.”

If you could spend a day in the shoes of any other profession, what would it be and why?

I've always been drawn to psychology because I genuinely enjoy understanding people, what motivates them, how they process challenges, and how you can help them through difficult situations. If I could spend a day in another profession, it would probably be working in psychology or counseling.

One area that especially interests me is supporting families after a traumatic birth or NICU experience. Those situations can be incredibly overwhelming, and I think having someone who listens, understands, and helps people navigate that journey can make a huge difference. In many ways, that interest carries over into what I do today. A big part of my role is listening, understanding different perspectives, and helping people work through problems. Whether it's psychology or product work, it all comes back to listening, understanding different perspectives, and helping people solve problems.
